The State Government spends approximately $27 billion per annum on goods, services, housing and works and can provide a reliable and consistent market for local businesses, particularly for small and medium sized enterprises. The Buy Local Policy supports Western Australian and in particular regional businesses through a number of measures to enhance supply opportunities.
The Policy owner is the Minister for Finance. However, the Policy is administered by both the Department of Finance (State Supply Commission) and Industry Development. Industry Development’s role includes promotion of the Policy to suppliers in terms of rights and responsibilities and as a member of the Local Content Advisory Committee (which rules on Policy exemptions and variations).
