Western Australia exported A$968 million of merchandise to the Philippines in 2018, with the top exports being wheat, precious metal ores (excluding gold and silver), copper ore, titanium dioxide pigments, and malt and rolled or flaked cereal grain. The Philippines is Western Australia’s largest export market for malt and rolled or flaked cereal grain.

The Philippines is Western Australia’s 34th largest source of merchandise imports. Western Australia imported A$116 million of merchandise from the Philippines in 2018, with the top imports being gold (further refined and re-exported), electrical machinery and apparatus, and taps, cocks and valves.

The Philippines foreign direct investment in Australia was $A4 million in 2016 (2018 not available). The Philippines is the 20th largest destination for Australia’s direct investment abroad (A$1.0 billion in 2018).

Western Australia had over 14,000 visitors and almost 600 students from the Philippines in 2018. For Western Australian tourists, the Philippines is the 11th most popular overseas destination, with 20,000 Western Australians visiting the Philippines in 2017-18.

Filipino people reside in Western Australia. In 2016, 35,000 Western Australian residents had Filipino ancestry and 31,000 were born in the Philippines.

The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation supports Western Australia’s investment and trade with the Philippines through its Singapore Office, which was established in 2012.
