Vietnam is Western Australia’s seventeenth largest merchandise export market. Western Australia exported A$1.2 billion of goods to Vietnam in 2018-19, with the top exports being iron ore, wheat, ferrous waste and scrap, live animals and LPG. Vietnam is Western Australia’s largest export market for ferrous waste and scrap.

Vietnam is Western Australia’s twenty-first largest source of merchandise imports. Western Australia imported A$288 million of goods from Vietnam in 2018-19, with the top imports being crude oil, furniture, and monitors and projectors.

From Vietnam, Western Australia had 3,000 visitors in 2018-19 and 1,700 students in 2018. For Western Australian tourists, Vietnam is the ninth most popular overseas destination, with 30,000 Western Australians visiting Vietnam in 2018.

Western Australia has a growing Vietnamese community. In 2016, 22,000 Western Australian residents had Vietnamese ancestry and 16,000 were born in Vietnam.

The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation supports Western Australia’s investment and trade with Vietnam through its Singapore Office, which was established in 2012.
