Thailand is Western Australia’s largest export market for inorganic chemicals, such as ammonia, silicon and aluminium hydroxide.

Thailand is Western Australia’s 8th largest source of merchandise imports. Western Australia imported A$1.4 billion of merchandise from Thailand in 2018, with the top imports being motor vehicles, and heating and cooling equipment.

Thailand is Australia’s 17th largest source of foreign direct investment (A$5.8 billion in 2018), while Thailand is the 16th largest destination for Australia’s direct investment abroad (A$1.4 billion in 2018).

Western Australia had over 12,000 visitors and almost 800 students from Thailand in 2018. For Western Australian tourists, Thailand is the 2nd most popular overseas destination, with 82,000 Western Australians visiting Thailand in 2017-18.

Thai people reside in Western Australia. In 2016, 8,000 Western Australian residents were born in Thailand.

The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation supports Western Australia’s investment and trade with Thailand through its Singapore Office, which was established in 2012.
