Tennis superstar Roger Federer has returned to Perth to take part in the 2018 Mastercard Hopman Cup.

The 19-time Grand Slam champion, who is representing Switzerland for the fourth time at the 30th staging of the mixed teams' tournament, spent his morning on Rottnest Island.

Federer took in the sights via a helicopter, met some local children, caught some crayfish, helped cook a seafood barbecue and managed to snap a 'quokka selfie'.

More than 103,160 fans flocked to Perth Arena earlier this year to watch one of the most successful Hopman Cups in the tournament's history.

Federer went on to win the Australian Open and Wimbledon following his appearance at the tournament. In 2018, he will once again be joined by Swiss player Belinda Bencic.

The State Government, through Tourism Western Australia, has been a proud sponsor of the Hopman Cup since its inception in 1989.
