The Government of Western Australia’s Indonesia office has been supporting Western Australian businesses in Indonesia for over 25 years. With its growing middle class, Indonesia offers trade and investment opportunities across a range of sectors including; education and vocational training; tourism; resources and energy and agrifood.
As Western Australia’s nearest neighbour Indonesia is an important export market. In 2017, they were WA’s ninth largest trading partner, with total bilateral trade valued at A$3.5 billion. Indonesia was WA’s seventh largest export market and thirteenth largest import market. Main exports to Indonesia include crude petroleum, wheat, iron ore, alumina and live cattle. In 2017, Indonesia was WA’s 14th largest market for international students and 8th largest market in terms tourism international.
In August 1990, Western Australia established a Sister State Relationship with the Indonesian province of East Java. Developing strong links in education and vocational training, resources and energy as well as promoting cultural and sporting exchanges.
