The Australian Domestic Gas Security Mechanism
The Commonwealth Government introduced legislation that allows it to implement export controls in the event of gas supply shortfalls in the eastern Australian market. Western Australia’s gas market is not connected to the east coast and long term contractual arrangements with Western Australian LNG exporters ensure gas is available for Western Australian consumers.

JTSI wrote to the Commonwealth Government about the Australian Domestic Gas Security Mechanism in June 2017. On 27 June 2017, the Commonwealth Minister for Resources clarified that Western Australian LNG exporters will not be subject to export controls in the event of a supply shortfall on the east coast.

JTSI updates to gas industry forums

The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is responsible for operating the Gas Bulletin Board (GBB) and preparing the annual Gas Statement of Opportunities (GSOO) for WA. JTSI provided updates on implementation of the WA Domestic Gas Policy to AEMO’s WA Gas Consultative Forums on 12 September 2017 and 9 October 2018.

The Energy in WA Conference is an annual forum on a variety of energy topics. JTSI made a presentation to a panel session discussing the evolution of the gas market at the Energy in WA Conference on 22 August 2018.
