  • 3,000 international delegates to attend Gas Asia Summit Conference and Exhibition

Mines and Petroleum and Asian Engagement Minister Bill Johnston will travel to Singapore tomorrow (October 25) to deliver a keynote speech at the Gas Asia Summit.

Mr Johnston will promote the expertise Western Australia can offer petroleum operations in Asia, particularly its petroleum decommissioning capacities.

The McGowan Government is building on the State's world-class expertise by supporting a joint research and development study by industry participants.

The joint research aims to deliver innovative and transformative offshore decommissioning solutions, positioning WA as a regional and global leader.

It is estimated that 600 petroleum producing fields will cease production in the Asia-Pacific region in the next 10 years.

Comments attributed to Mines and Petroleum and Asian Engagement Minister Bill Johnston:

"Decommissioning offshore oil and gas infrastructure is an emerging global issue.

"Perth is already a global hub for oil and gas organisations and has the industrial capacity and expertise to address the growing demand for decommissioning services.

"As Minister for Asian Engagement, I will work hard to promote WA's trade and investment opportunities to create jobs for Western Australians."
